HOW LONG SHOULD YOU WAIT BEFORE WORKING OUT AFTER A WAX?

Question of the century: “How long should I wait before going to the gym after my wax?”

I hear it all the time, sister. I know what it’s like to be in a steady gym routine and having to skip a day… it’s no fun! We LOVE staying healthy and getting our sweat on!

But the sweat is the problem. 

After a wax, your skin is sensitive, inflamed, and needs to chill. Working out right after a wax isn’t a good idea, because the intense movement can cause sweat and bacteria to quickly find their way to your new exposed pores. So what? Well, this can cause breakouts, ingrown hairs, and infections… and we don’t want that! #AmIRight?

If you want to keep your skin looking and feeling smooth and healthy, we suggest waiting at least 24 hours before working out after a Brazilian wax. Waiting 36-48 hours is even more ideal… try scheduling your rest days around the time of your next waxing appointment.

So what kind of workouts can you do after a Brazilian wax?

If you absolutely cannot wait 24 hours, try doing the lowest-intensity workout you can. Think: minimal sweat and movement! This means:

NO spin class

NO HIIT

NO kickboxing

or any other intense workout that involves serious use of the lower half of your body.

Try yoga, stretching, free-weights, etc.

Train arms or upper-body to avoid too much movement from the hips down, which can lead to irritation after a wax.

Avoid saunas, hot tubs, and swimming pools… even those these are low-impact, low-movement activities, remember your skin follicles are exposed and have been freshly traumatized. It’s best to avoid the chemicals and bcateria public areas like this can contain. Plus, wearing bathing suits after a wax could increase the chances of ingrown hairs. #NoThankYou

So here is what we say:

Wait 24-48 hours. It’s just a good idea.

Can’t wait? Workout the upper body, stretch, avoid public swim areas, don’t stay in your tight leggings or swimsuit too long as it compressed the hair follicles (aka… causes ingrown hairs!), take a shower as soon as you’re finished working out to clean the skin, use a soothing post wax treatment like Tend Skin (we conveniently sell this in our store!)
